If you are the victim of fertility fraud, what you thought would be a positive life-changing event may have turned out completely different than you ever expected. As a result, you may experience a variety of emotions, ranging from anger and sadness to despair and hopelessness.

Fertility fraud affects many families in the U.S. and according to the American Council on Science and Health, recently, up to 50 fertility doctors in the country have faced charges for fraudulent activity in connection with medical fertility procedures. As you try to move forward from fertility fraud, the following strategies can help you cope with the emotional effects of the situation.

Maintain a regular schedule

It may seem like life feels completely different than even just a few weeks or a few months ago. Even still, try to maintain a regular schedule and participate in activities that feel comfortable and familiar.

Talk to a professional

You may experience a variety of emotions after learning about your fertility fraud situation, and it may be difficult to work through all of them on your own. Consider seeking help from a therapist or counselor who can guide you through this difficult period of your life.

Stay away from emotional triggers

Certain situations, places or people may bring up feelings of sadness or despair in relation to your fertility situation. As you recover, consider staying away from these triggers so you can focus on moving forward.

Finding out you are the victim of fertility fraud can be devastating. During this difficult time, go easy on yourself and remember that life will not always feel this way.
